Longboarding is similar to skateboarding, just as the longboard looks almost like a skateboard. However, the longboard is longer and a bit wider. It also has larger wheels that can better balance a bumpy ground than the skateboard. So the Longboard can drive on different types of surface and become very fast – speeds up to 100 km / h are possible.Normally, however, is driven at about 60 km / h, when it comes to the downhill or speed longboarding. In curves must be braked, which only works by special driving maneuvers. On straight stretches, on the other hand, the board can quickly reach high speeds, and the harder the board is (there are different degrees of hardness ), the faster it can get.
The driving experience of longboarding is similar to that of snowboarding or surfing, just without snow or water – the longboarders glide over the road, so to speak. And that’s what makes the longboarders the most fun, because the ride feel of the longboard they describe as very pleasant, the high speeds provide the adrenaline kick and certain driving techniques ensure that driving is extra fun again. The riders can even, like skateboarding, do “tricks” on the longboard to increase their driving pleasure. During longboarding, the wind blows around the ears, the landscape passes by and the road is barely noticeable under the feet – it’s fun and gives you a sense of speed and freedom.
How dangerous is downhill longboarding?
Downhill Longboarding is not for beginners, because to be alone on flat stretches with the longboard safely to be learned. However, downhill longboarding is still dangerous even for experienced longboarders, because the wheels can slip quite fast and braking the longboard is hardly possible. Of course, jumping is not possible, but the longboard is traveling too fast. Even if no cars or other road users meet, the risk of injury during longboarding is high, which is why protective clothing is always worn.
It can easily come to accidents with other road users, because it must react very quickly in order to dodge with the longboard and the longboarder may be traveling too fast to react in time. Especially when the track is winding, it gets really dangerous, because the longboarder can not see oncoming cars fast enough. Compared to a car, the longboard course has no chance – but also with other road users can cause serious accidents, which is why longboarders should definitely use a closed track.
